Abstract

The purpose of the article is to scientifically substantiate approaches to integrating ESG criteria into the strategic management of enterprises, taking into account industry-specific factors and modern market requirements, and to determine the role of ESG approaches in ensuring competitiveness and sustainable business development. Systemic, analytical, and structural-functional methods were applied within the scope of the study, enabling a detailed examination of the key problems of ESG implementation, the identification of barriers, and the outlining of scientifically based approaches to overcome them. The methodological basis of the analysis was formed by combining concepts of sustainable development, strategic management, and modern approaches to evaluating non-financial indicators. The results obtained demonstrate that effective integration of ESG criteria requires a transition from fragmented actions to a systemic transformation of the management model. The article highlights the main methodological difficulties associated with the lack of unified measurement standards, the insufficient quality of non-financial data and the unevenness of the regulatory environment. It is substantiated that the specifics of the industry determine the different potential for implementing ESG indicators, which requires adapted strategic solutions. Based on the analysis, recommendations are proposed to ensure the effectiveness of ESG management: the creation of a strategic ESG framework, the development of internal personnel competencies, the digitization of ESG data monitoring, the adoption of industry standards, and the activation of sustainable financing mechanisms. It has been proven that the use of such approaches contributes to the formation of transparent business processes, reduces risks, strengthens stakeholders' trust, and increases the investment attractiveness of enterprises. The conclusions emphasize that the scientifically based implementation of ESG criteria is a key factor in the long-term performance and sustainability of companies in a changing global environment. The approaches and tools developed in the article enable enterprises to move from declarative practices to a full-fledged ESG-oriented strategy, which serves as a basis for further scientific developments in strategic management and sustainable development.
