Changes in the modeling of hotel business processes amid economic changes in Ukraine

Abstract

The hotel industry in Ukraine is an important component of the national economy, as it combines the functions of the service sector, an investment-attractive business, and an element of regional development. In the context of military challenges, inflationary processes, currency fluctuations, and the energy crisis, this sector has undergone a significant transformation, which has affected both the country's economic system as a whole and the efficiency of hotel businesses in particular. Classic business process management models have proven to be insufficiently flexible, creating a need to find new approaches that combine process-oriented management, digital transformation, and scenario planning. The purpose of this article is to analyze current trends in the development of Ukraine's hotel industry as a component of the national economy and to study the transformation of business processes under the influence of economic changes. The paper identifies the main methodological approaches to modeling (BPMN, IDEF0, EPC, Lean, Digital Twin), considers their application in the hotel business, and the possibilities for optimizing resources, reducing transaction costs, and forming adaptive management models. The practical part of the study is based on an analysis of examples of adaptation by Ukrainian hotels of various formats. Chain hotels (Reikartz Hotel Group, Premier Hotels and Resorts) focus on standardization and digital integration; premium establishments (Bristol, Londonskaya, Mozart) focus on maintaining high standards of service, energy efficiency, and flexible pricing policies; boutique hotels (Frederic Koklen, UNO Design Hotel) focus on unique offers and customer centricity. Common trends have been identified: digitalization of management, dynamic pricing, multifunctionality of staff, outsourcing of support functions, and diversification of services. The scientific novelty of the article lies in the justification of adaptive models of business processes of hotel enterprises as an element of the national economy, capable of ensuring their competitiveness in crisis conditions. The practical significance lies in the possibility of using the developed recommendations to increase the efficiency, investment attractiveness, and integration of the hotel industry into the strategic development of Ukraine's economic system.
