The role of a manager and the opportunity to contribute to solving sustainable development problems

Abstract

This article describes the problems and opportunities of a manager when making management decisions that affect the strategy of the enterprise, solving operational problems and problems of sustainable development. Special attention is paid to the ability of a manager to correctly make decisions in the direction of sustainable development and to use the necessary tools and methods for this. The content of the systematization of the decision-making process is disclosed, the stages of the problem-solving process are presented, their content is disclosed. Considerable attention is paid to the collection and organization of information necessary for developing an alternative solution to the problem of a functioning company, the content of two approaches (direct and indirect) when choosing alternatives is proposed and disclosed. Options that are used in the practice of enterprise activities to organize decisions are presented. Approaches to choosing the optimal solution from the developed alternatives in the process of its preparation are recommended. The tools and methods of decision-making by a manager when solving a problem related to the implementation of sustainable development in the practical activities of the enterprise are considered. Obstacles that prevent the manager from achieving the set goal and fulfilling the mission of the enterprise are named. An example of the manager's use of the method of comparing alternatives when solving sustainable development problems in specific production situations of operating enterprises is illustrated. In particular, the decision-making of the manager when choosing ecological packaging, which is an element of the enterprise's sustainable development strategy, is analyzed. As a result, the article emphasizes the importance for the manager to develop and improve skills and abilities to use modern problem-solving tools that will allow more effectively achieving the enterprise's sustainable development goals.
