Abstract

This paper analyzes current waste management trends globally and in Ukraine, focusing on innovative practices in leading countries to mitigate environmental impacts. The study compares Ukraine's waste management system with international standards, revealing critical gaps in infrastructure, regulation, and public awareness that hinder sustainability efforts.

While advanced countries leverage circular economy principles, extensive recycling, and waste-to-energy solutions, Ukraine’s heavy reliance on landfill disposal raises environmental concerns. Countries like Germany, Sweden, and Japan showcase models of efficient waste management that could inform Ukraine’s strategies.

Key recommendations include adopting European Union standards, enhancing recycling infrastructure, and fostering public involvement in sustainable practices. The article emphasizes the need for legislative improvements to support recycling, composting, and energy recovery, coupled with educational programs to boost public participation. Furthermore, attracting foreign investment and building international partnerships are seen as essential steps toward modernizing Ukraine's waste management sector.

Embracing global best practices can enable Ukraine to reduce landfill dependency and mitigate ecological risks, transitioning toward a circular economy. Implementing these changes will not only address immediate environmental issues but also align Ukraine with international sustainability standards, promoting long-term ecological resilience and security.

The article also highlights the importance of developing a cohesive national strategy that integrates waste management into broader environmental and economic policies. By coordinating efforts across governmental, private, and public sectors, Ukraine can create a system that not only meets current waste challenges but is adaptable to future demands. This integrated approach, combining regulatory enforcement with public education and technological investment, can drive meaningful change toward a sustainable and resilient waste management framework in Ukraine.
