The article examines the theoretical and applied aspects of product quality formation as a key characteristic that determines the consumer properties of products and their competitiveness in the market. It is substantiated that the category of “quality” is a multicomponent system of interrelated properties and indicators that ensure the product’s ability to satisfy consumer needs in accordance with its intended purpose and operating conditions.
The theoretical and applied aspects of the commodity characteristics of personal protective equipment (PPE) have been generalized, including the systematization of their classification and quality requirements, as well as the analysis of the PPE assortment available on the domestic market, taking into account current regulatory requirements and trends in the development of the occupational safety market.
Particular attention is paid to personal protective equipment, which is an integral element of the occupational safety system and the protection of workers’ life and health. It is determined that modern production conditions are characterized by an increased level of occupational risks, which necessitates the continuous improvement and implementation of innovative PPE to minimize the impact of harmful and hazardous factors.
The study systematizes the main quality requirements for PPE – effectiveness, reliability, quality, and economic efficiency – and provides their commodity characteristics with consideration of forming factors. The influence of materials, design solutions, production technologies, and operating conditions on the functional properties of the products is revealed.
The regulatory and legal framework governing the circulation of PPE in Ukraine has been analyzed, in particular the provisions of the Technical Regulation on Personal Protective Equipment and DSTU 7239:2011. The expansion of responsibility for product quality across all stages of the life cycle – from the manufacturer to importers and distributors – is considered.
The assortment of personal protective equipment available on the domestic market has been studied separately, including head protection, respiratory protection, hearing protection, eye and face protection, hand and foot protection, and special protective clothing. Examples of design solutions and characteristics of the main PPE groups are provided.
The purpose of the article is to generalize the theoretical and applied aspects of the commodity characteristics of personal protective equipment (PPE), to systematize their classification and quality requirements, and to analyze the assortment of PPE marketed in the domestic market, taking into account current regulatory requirements and trends in the occupational safety market.
Research Methods. General scientific and special research methods were used, in particular: theoretical analysis and generalization of scientific literature and regulatory documents, systematization and classification of material (quality requirements and PPE assortment), comparative analysis, and the descriptive-analytical method. A review and critical analysis of previous publications, the regulatory framework, design features, and characteristics of individual types of personal protective equipment were carried out, supported by tables, figures, and specific market examples. The article is predominantly theoretical and analytical-review in nature, with elements of commodity assortment analysis, and does not employ empirical (experimental, sociological, or statistical) methods.
Research Results. The study has shown that the quality of PPE is a complex category that integrates indicators of effectiveness, reliability, ergonomics, and economic feasibility. The combination of these characteristics determines the level of protective properties of the products and their suitability for use in real working conditions. The systematization of commodity characteristics revealed that the formation of PPE consumer properties depends on many factors, among which materials, design solutions, production technologies, and operating conditions play a leading role. This emphasizes the need for a comprehensive approach to quality assessment of this product category.
Conclusions. Personal protective equipment is an integral element of the occupational safety system that directly affects the level of safety, health, and work capacity of workers. The analysis of regulatory and legal frameworks has confirmed that Ukraine has a well-developed system of standards and technical regulations ensuring quality and safety control of PPE throughout its entire life cycle. The study of the assortment confirmed its wide range and diversity, which makes it possible to meet the needs of various sectors of the economy. At the same time, there is a growing need to improve distribution channels, particularly through the development of digital platforms and online trade.
